2013 International Conference on Open Data in Biodiversity and Ecological Research

Introduction

Open Data in Science, the prevailing movement worldwide, will greatly impact the progress in the future of science and will help solve urgent environmental issues. Thus, Taiwan’s National Science Council dedicates fund to TaiBIF (Taiwan Biodiversity Information Facility) to organize this conference. The aims are to promote open data in science, focusing on introducing to the domain scientists and students in Taiwan the international data portals and collaborative platforms in sharing biodiversity and ecological research data, as well as to encourage researchers to make their research data accessible through the mechanisms of publishing data papers in scientific journals. Twelve foreign speakers will introduce AP-BON, DataONE, Ecological Research, EU-BON, Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), Japan Biodiversity Information Facility (JBIF), linked open data, National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON), Pensoft, and Thomson Reuters respectively. A one-day workshop will offer training courses on submitting raw data for all the biodiversity-related National Science Council (NSC) project directors and their research assistants.
